West Bengal has introduced its Investment Promotion Policy, 2026, effective May 9, aiming to attract investments and boost industrialization. The policy centers on employment generation, offering incentives that are higher for businesses employing women and transgender workers. It promises expedited and transparent processes, including online applications and direct incentive payments, with dedicated support for large projects.
The policy extends to MSMEs, large units, strategic and mega projects, and various service sectors. It includes significant benefits like EPF contribution reimbursement, with enhanced rates for women and transgender employees. Assistance levels for businesses range from 100% to 120% of eligible fixed capital investment, depending on the sector and location.
Investment will be directed towards less-industrialized priority areas identified by an index. Thrust sectors like semiconductors, green hydrogen, and defense are highlighted, with tailored incentives for strategic and mega projects. The policy also supports non-profit institutions and the revival of sick industrial units.
To simplify the process, a single online application will be accepted, with a certificate of intent issued within 30 days. Payments of sanctioned claims will be made directly within 30 days of production commencement. Dedicated officers will oversee large projects, and monthly progress reviews will be conducted by the chief secretary.
