Waterfront Parking Crackdown: Caravans Ousted from Scenic Road

On November 13th, 2025, Southampton City Council announced the introduction of new parking restrictions on Weston Parade, a scenic road along the city's waterfront. The measures, set to take effect on November 20th, come in response to an ongoing issue with vehicles, including caravans, being used for accommodation on the shore-side road.

The council's cabinet member for transport, Councillor Christie Lambert, stated that the parked vehicles were obstructing traffic and also raised sanitary and safety concerns due to the structures, such as caravans, being used for living purposes. Following a public consultation, the council decided to implement "no waiting at any time" restrictions on both the north-east and south-west sides of Weston Parade, extending from near the Weston Shore Car Park towards the city boundary.

In addition to the no-waiting zones, new parking bays with a 6-hour time limit will be introduced, operating between 6 AM and 10 PM. Drivers will not be allowed to return to the area within four hours, and overnight parking between midnight and 4 AM will be prohibited in the Weston Shore car parks as well.

Councillor Lambert emphasized that the majority of respondents to the Traffic Regulation Order consultation supported the restrictions, which will allow the council to better manage the issues and remove obstructions for drivers, while also supporting the many people who enjoy walking, cycling, and wheeling along Weston Parade.
