Walmart Meat Prices Skewed, TikToker Reveals

A viral TikToker, Jimmy Wrigg, has drawn significant attention for exposing what he claims are significant meat pricing discrepancies at several Walmart locations in Georgia. Wrigg's videos, which have garnered millions of views since January, showcase instances where pre-packaged meats like chicken breasts and hams were labeled with prices exceeding their actual value based on weight.

One of Wrigg's most viewed videos demonstrates a Kentucky Legend brand ham appearing to cost $24.55, but its actual weight suggested a price of only $9.11. In response, Kentucky Legend issued a statement confirming an isolated five-minute production error at a Walmart in Commerce, Georgia, affecting specific hams. They pledged to address the issue and offered impacted customers a way to get refunds.

Walmart confirmed that the identified Kentucky Legend products were removed from shelves the prior week and directed customers to the manufacturer's statement. However, Wrigg expressed disappointment that Walmart did not address other alleged pricing discrepancies involving non-Kentucky Legend brands. He noted that many followers report similar issues at Walmarts nationwide, prompting him to file a complaint with his local weights and measures department.

Experts explain that such errors can occur due to automated production line issues or system glitches, though Wrigg's findings of nearly double the actual weight are considered substantial. Walmart has faced similar issues previously, agreeing to a $45 million settlement in 2024 concerning weighted grocery overcharges, though that case reportedly differed from Wrigg's findings.
