Vodafone Idea Fights to Quash Additional AGR Dues in Supreme Court

On October 27, 2025, the Supreme Court will hear Vodafone Idea's plea to quash the Department of Telecommunications' (DoT) additional adjusted gross revenue (AGR) demands for the period up to FY2016-17. The debt-laden telecom firm has challenged the DoT's claim of Rs 5,606 crore in additional AGR dues.
Ahead of the crucial hearing, Vodafone Idea's share price gained over 1% on the BSE, rising to an intraday high of Rs 9.80 per share. The Supreme Court had previously deferred the hearing on October 13, 2025, and the matter is now scheduled to be taken up when the apex court resumes functioning after the Diwali break.
The government, which holds nearly 50% equity in Vodafone Idea, had earlier said it was working toward an amicable resolution with the company. Vodafone Idea has sought directions for the DoT to "comprehensively re-assess and reconcile all AGR dues for the period up to FY2016-17" in line with the Deduction Verification Guidelines issued on February 3, 2020.
