Viridien Soars on Goldman Sachs Buy Rating

Viridien's stock experienced a notable increase of 3.8% on Tuesday following Goldman Sachs' initiation of coverage with a Buy recommendation. Analysts at Goldman Sachs view Viridien as a distinct opportunity to capitalize on the anticipated rebound in global exploration expenditures.

The company has undergone a significant transformation, evolving from its previous iteration as CGG. Viridien has successfully repositioned itself, shifting its operational model from a capital-intensive acquisition approach to a technology-driven geoscience franchise. This new structure boasts leading positions in subsurface imaging (Geoscience), multi-client data (Earth Data), and seismic equipment (SMO).

Goldman Sachs highlights that the market appears to underestimate the strength of Viridien's geoscience franchise, its potential for earnings growth during a seismic upcycle, and the ongoing improvements in its balance sheet. The firm projects an 8% compound annual growth rate for Viridien's cash flow from operations, excluding working capital, between 2026 and 2030. This outlook is underpinned by the belief that the industry is entering a new cycle of oil capital spending focused on reserve replacement.

Subsurface imaging is identified as the primary catalyst for Goldman Sachs' positive rating, representing the most undervalued aspect of Viridien's business. The company holds over 50% of the global market share in this segment, with its share projected to rise from 41% in 2020 to approximately 55% by 2025. This dominance is secured by a technological advantage, supported by a team of over 300 PhDs, proprietary algorithms, and a robust high-performance computing platform.
