Veterans Receive Year-End Boost: December Payments Arrive
16 Nov
Summary
- 6.5 million veterans receive tax-free disability compensation
- Payments support vets with service-connected disabilities
- December benefits arrive on New Year's Eve

According to the latest information, as of 2025, approximately 6.5 million US veterans are receiving tax-free disability compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). These monthly payments are designed to support veterans whose disabilities, illnesses, or injuries are directly connected to their time in active military service.
In addition to the disability compensation, the VA also provides financial assistance through two other benefit programs. The Veterans and Survivors Pension program offers support to eligible low-income veterans and their surviving family members, while the VA Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) provides a tax-free monthly benefit to certain surviving family members of veterans.
Looking ahead to December 2025, veterans can expect to receive their regular monthly benefits as well as the November payments. This is due to the fact that the expected November 30th payment date falls on a weekend, prompting the VA to shift the schedule forward. As a result, veterans will see their December payments arrive on December 31st, which coincides with New Year's Eve.
