4 Aug
Summary
- Second-quarter revenue hit $204 million, up 10.5% year-over-year.
- Adjusted EBITDA rose 33% to $51 million with margin expansion.
- Customer retention remains strong, but expansion needs improvement.

Vertex, a specialist in tax software, announced positive second-quarter financial results, exceeding expectations and prompting an upward revision of its full-year adjusted EBITDA forecast. The company's performance was driven by effective cost management, consistent customer loyalty, and an increasing demand for its e-invoicing solutions.
Revenue for the quarter climbed by 10.5% compared to the previous year, reaching $204 million. Concurrently, adjusted EBITDA saw a significant jump of 33%, totaling $51 million. This growth was accompanied by an expansion in the adjusted EBITDA margin, which improved by over four percentage points year-over-year to 25%.
President and Chief Executive Officer Chris Young emphasized two critical factors: the inherent resilience of the Vertex business model and the company's developing ability to translate operational focus and cost efficiencies into tangible earnings growth. He affirmed that these results underscore the durability of Vertex's operations.
Vertex maintained a gross revenue retention rate of 95% and a net revenue retention rate of 105% for the second consecutive quarter. Young attributed these stable figures to the robustness of its established customer base and the indispensable nature of Vertex's services within critical tax and compliance processes.
However, Young also pointed out areas needing enhancement. He acknowledged that expansion within the existing customer base and the acquisition of new clients are not yet meeting the company's desired levels. The transition to cloud-based solutions has also proceeded more slowly than initially projected, consequently affecting the anticipated growth trajectory for cloud revenue.
