3 Jul
Summary
- Vedanta Power saw a 38% year-on-year increase in Q1 power sales.
- Meenakshi Energy's output significantly drove the year-on-year growth.
- Sakti Thermal Plant remains shut following a boiler blast incident.
Vedanta Power achieved a notable 38% year-on-year rise in power sales during the first quarter ended June 30, 2026. This surge was largely attributed to a significant increase in generation from Meenakshi Energy and consistent output from Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant.
Total power sales reached 5,225 million units, up from 3,784 million units in the corresponding period of the previous year. Meenakshi Energy demonstrated exceptional growth, with power sales increasing by 245% year-on-year to 1,350 million units, benefiting from its expanded 1,000 MW capacity.
Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant remained the largest contributor, posting 2,723 million units in power sales. While stable year-on-year, it showed a 14% increase compared to the previous quarter. Conversely, Sakti Thermal Plant experienced a significant drop in sales, standing at 465 million units, due to a temporary shutdown since April 14 following a boiler blast in Unit I.
The company's overall installed capacity stands at 4.2 GW, with an additional 0.6 GW Shakti Unit II under development. Its portfolio includes major plants like Talwandi Sabo, Meenakshi, Sakti, and Jharsuguda.
