A national-level Saras fair is scheduled to take place from February 20 to March 2 at the Sampurnanand Sanskrit University sports ground in Varanasi. This 10-day event will feature the exhibition and sale of diverse products from numerous states across India, including prominent stalls from Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, Kerala, and Haryana.
The fair's offerings will span a wide range of traditional crafts and products such as chikan work, black pottery, silk sarees, wooden toys, ladies' garments, glass bangles, soft toys, decorative items, zari zardozi, jute bags, bamboo products, bed sheets, natural food, and coconut products. It is designed to be a crucial platform for skilled women artisans, enabling them to display their art, reach more homes, and gain enhanced market access.
Preparations for the fair are underway, with district officials ensuring arrangements for traffic, cleanliness, health facilities, firefighting, participant accommodation, transport, and security. An estimated 5,000 visitors are expected daily. The event will also include daily cultural programs, offering a taste of Varanasi's art to participants and visitors alike. This marks the fifth time such a fair has been organized in Varanasi, providing artisans with valuable business opportunities.
