The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) standing committee has approved a substantial budget of Rs 7,672 crore for the 2026-27 fiscal year. This budget, forwarded to the general board, notably rejects all proposed increases in service charges and administrative fees, despite the VMC administration's efforts to boost revenue through these means. The approved figure represents an increase from the administration's initial proposal of Rs 7,609 crore.
Several budget adjustments were made by the committee. Allocations for the flower show were reduced by Rs 9.99 crore, and Rs 3.5 crore was cut from recruitment tests and examinations. Conversely, expenditure on pavements and related works saw a Rs 20 lakh increase. The committee anticipates higher revenue from sources such as administrative penalties for littering, shop rents, plumber license fees, treated wastewater sales, and advertisements.
Further allocations within the budget were increased for employee welfare, including rewards and accident compensation. Spending on festival illumination, street lighting, stray animal nuisance control, and essential road works also received boosts. The budget also incorporates Rs 12 crore as the state government's contribution towards the city bus service, indicating a broader development focus.
