Usha Yarns Limited, a prominent Indian recycled-yarn manufacturer, has announced securing a growth equity investment from the Asia-based Fullerton Carbon Action Fund. This strategic capital infusion is designated to enhance the company's production capabilities and broaden its engagement with international apparel and textile brands.
Founded in 1995 and based near Chandigarh, Usha Yarns operates advanced recycling and yarn manufacturing facilities. The company currently produces more than 18,000 metric tons of recycled yarn annually, utilizing post-industrial cotton waste and polyester derived from recycled PET bottles under its Puneh brand.
A key aspect of Usha's operation is its ability to produce recycled cotton yarn in over 120 shades by using colored textile waste, thereby eliminating the need for a separate dyeing process. This method not only reduces costs but also conserves water, energy, and chemicals typically used in conventional yarn dyeing.
While Usha primarily targets cutting waste from garment manufacturers, it is also piloting initiatives to incorporate post-consumer garment waste. The company's managing director, Anurag Gupta, expressed enthusiasm for expanding their products to more global markets with enhanced traceability and reliability.
