Uttar Pradesh, a leader in domestic tourism, is witnessing a substantial increase in demand for quality housing and commercial real estate within its prominent religious tourism hubs. Destinations such as Ayodhya, Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Mathura are attracting significant attention from both private and public sector developers.
Investment in the formal real estate sector across these key faith tourism destinations saw a notable 66% rise. From approximately ₹982 crore in the first half of calendar year 2025 (H1CY25), investment climbed to around ₹1,631 crore in H1CY26. This surge is mirrored in the supply of housing units, which increased from 2,481 in H1CY25 to 3,867 units in H1CY26 across Ayodhya, Mathura, Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Mirzapur.
The state's religious tourism has experienced a significant boost, particularly following the redevelopment of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham in Varanasi and the consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. This has led to a doubling of domestic and international tourist inflow, from 640 million in 2024 to 1.56 billion in 2025, with Prayagraj being the most visited city in 2025.
In response to the growing demand and positive buzz surrounding religious tourism development, the Uttar Pradesh government is actively facilitating new housing projects, including greenfield townships. Varanasi, in particular, saw a remarkable leap in real estate investment, growing from four projects worth approximately ₹205 crore in H1CY25 to six projects valued at around ₹944 crore in H1CY26.
