Since 2019, the state government's 'Mukhyamantri Matikala Yojana' has provided 463 electric potter's wheels free of charge to artisans in Prayagraj, promoting self-employment and eco-friendly alternatives to plastic. The scheme also offers artisans loans up to ₹10 lakh with a 25% subsidy and provides essential equipment like pug mills at no cost.
Artisans are now creating modern products such as designer kulhads, cups and saucers, and washbasins, meeting current market demands. This diversification, supported by financial aid and modern equipment, has increased productivity and reduced physical strain. The initiative aims to preserve traditional pottery art and curb rural artisan migration.
Demand for these handcrafted clay products is rising due to growing health awareness. The district administration is facilitating online sales via platforms like IndiaMART and GeM, alongside participation in handicraft fairs to expand market reach for these Prayagraj-based artisans.
