United Airlines is introducing a new seating option called the Relax Row, scheduled to debut in 2027. This innovative feature will allow economy class passengers on long-haul flights to experience lie-flat seating, previously exclusive to premium cabins.
The Relax Row will consist of three economy seats that can be converted into a couch. Passengers will benefit from adjustable leg rests that fold up to a 90-degree angle, offering more space to sleep or stretch out.
This new offering will begin rolling out in 2027 and is planned for over 200 Boeing 787 and 777 aircraft by 2030. Twelve Relax Row sections will be situated between United Economy and United Premium Plus cabins.
United Airlines aims to provide enhanced comfort for families with small children, solo travelers, and couples. Relax Row passengers will receive amenities such as a custom mattress pad, blanket, and extra pillows. Families will also receive a plush toy and a children's travel kit.
With this development, United becomes the first North American airline to offer lie-flat seating in economy. Similar options are already available on select international airlines like Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airways, and Lufthansa.
