UK Inflation Plummets to 10-Month Low!
18 Feb
Summary
- UK inflation fell to 3% in January, a 10-month low.
- Lower food and gas prices significantly contributed to the decline.
- This trend strengthens expectations for a Bank of England rate cut.

Consumer prices in the United Kingdom experienced a notable slowdown in January, reaching their lowest point in ten months. The Office for National Statistics reported that the consumer prices index rose by 3%, a decrease from the 3.4% recorded in December. This cooling inflation rate is largely attributed to falling prices for food and energy.
The current inflation figure is in line with economic forecasts and places the UK on a trajectory towards the Bank of England's target of 2%. Analysts anticipate further declines in the coming months. This trend has intensified expectations for the Bank of England to implement an interest rate cut in March.
This economic relief comes as the Labour government prioritizes reducing the cost of living for its citizens. Treasury chief Rachel Reeves has indicated that measures, including tax cuts on domestic energy bills announced in November, are contributing to this downward inflation trend.
