Estimates suggest drivers are stealing approximately £194,000 worth of fuel daily from UK petrol pumps. The value of stolen fuel has seen an even greater increase of 48% over the same period, largely due to rising pump prices.

Forecourt Eye is now collaborating with Facewatch to offer its customers complimentary access to advanced crime reporting technology. This partnership aims to simplify the recording of fuel thefts, shop crimes, and other illegal activities.

Users of this new technology will have the option to join a live facial recognition network designed to alert them to known offenders. This initiative is crucial as crime becomes more organized and sophisticated, requiring integrated solutions for forecourt and convenience store protection.

Industry representatives have noted a rise in aggressive behavior towards staff, and welcomed the integration of technologies to prevent crime, manage incidents, and aid police investigations.

Business owners emphasize that fuel theft significantly impacts smaller operators, not just large oil companies, especially with the current cost of living pressures. The misconception that these forecourts are always operated by major brands leads some offenders to believe their actions have minimal consequences.
