The Ujjain Development Authority has initiated a significant redevelopment project for the Bhukhi Mata temple complex, situated along the Kshipra River. This ambitious plan, with an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore, is a crucial part of preparing Ujjain's ancient religious sites for the upcoming Simhastha 2028. The project's tender is currently undergoing technical examination.
The redevelopment aims to preserve the temple's historical and religious significance while upgrading its structure and incorporating modern amenities for devotees. This initiative is expected to transform the temple area into a major religious tourism hub. A dedicated corridor will be constructed to manage devotee movement, especially during large gatherings.
Plans also include acquiring private land to establish organized parking facilities, which will help alleviate traffic congestion. The complex will feature a public amenities center offering a waiting hall, rest areas, drinking water, and restrooms. Importantly, ramps and barrier-free access will be provided for persons with disabilities.
Further enhancements include landscaped green areas, decorative lighting, and CCTV surveillance for security. The project extends to improving approach roads and traffic management in surrounding areas to ensure smooth and safe passage for the expected influx of visitors during Simhastha 2028.
