Ubisoft has ended game development at its North Carolina-based Red Storm Entertainment studio, a move that resulted in 105 employees being laid off. This decision is part of the company's ongoing efforts to reduce costs. The studio, founded in 1996, is renowned for its contributions to the Tom Clancy franchise, having developed early installments of Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six, as well as XDefiant and Assassin's Creed Nexus VR. Most recently, it was involved with the canceled Splinter Cell VR and The Division Heartland.
While Red Storm Entertainment will remain operational, its focus will shift from game creation to supporting Ubisoft's Snowdrop engine, which powers titles like The Division series and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Remaining staff will also handle IT and customer relations. This marks the third instance of significant job cuts at Red Storm within the past three years, following previous layoffs in August 2024 and July 2025. These actions are indicative of broader workforce reductions across Ubisoft, including recent cuts at studios like Halifax and RedLynx.
