TVS Motor Company has accumulated nearly ₹2,000 crore in losses at its acquired British premium motorcycle brand, Norton, since taking ownership in 2020. This figure represents a significant portion of TVS's overall profits during the same period.
Norton recorded its highest post-tax loss of ₹723 crore in the fiscal year 2026, preceding a planned global relaunch in July with a new lineup. Production of the first Atlas models began on June 24, 2026, at TVS's Hosur facility.
This investment signifies TVS's strategic aim to enhance its premium market standing globally. The company is focused on rebuilding Norton with engineering discipline and aims to expand its dealer network from 50 to 200 locations across seven countries by the end of the current fiscal year.
TVS acquired the 1898-founded brand for ₹153 crore in 2020. Since then, efforts have centered on product development, establishing a design and engineering hub in Solihull, England, and preparing six new products, with two already in production.
Experts view TVS's commitment to Norton as a long-term project, potentially taking a decade to yield significant returns. The company seeks to emulate Bajaj Auto's successful turnaround of KTM, aiming to establish Norton as a globally admired luxury motorcycle brand.
