LA's Iconic Tommy's Turns 80: Chili Deals Today!

Original Tommy's World Famous Hamburgers is marking a significant milestone, celebrating 80 years of serving its legendary chili burgers. To commemorate this occasion, the popular eatery is offering a special deal: 80-cent chili burgers available all day. This anniversary promotion runs from noon to 8 p.m. across all Original Tommy's locations.

The festivities included a morning celebration at the chain's first restaurant in the Westlake District. Dignitaries, including California Assemblymember Mark Gonzalez, joined founding family members for the event. Assemblymember Gonzalez officially declared May 15th as 'Tommy's Day' in California, honoring the legacy of founder Tom Koulax.

Tom Koulax established the first Original Tommy's on May 15, 1946, at the corner of Beverly and Rampart boulevards, quickly becoming known for its distinctive chili-topped burgers. His daughter, Cindi Koulax, expressed gratitude for the family's continued ownership and the brand's enduring success. The chain has expanded to multiple counties in California and even into Nevada, with many locations operating 24 hours.

Looking ahead, Original Tommy's is planning a measured expansion, with a new location set to open in Woodland Hills. Cindi Koulax indicated that the company is focused on "slow growth" while maintaining the traditions and quality that have defined the brand for eight decades, including the unique atmosphere of the original stand-up counter location.
