Tamil Nadu Gifts 1 Gram Gold Rings to New Babies

Tamil Nadu has awarded contracts to Joyalukkas and Kalyan Jewellers for its ambitious welfare initiative, the Thaimaaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam scheme. This program will gift a 1-gram gold ring to every child born in a government hospital across the state.

The scheme, set to launch on September 15, is designed to encourage expectant mothers to utilize government healthcare facilities for childbirth. Joyalukkas secured the majority of the contract, being the lowest bidder, while Kalyan Jewellers agreed to match the bid and will supply the remaining rings.

Initially, 1,28,499 rings will be supplied for babies born between June and September. The overall tender covers 4.41 lakh rings, signifying a substantial state investment in supporting new families and promoting institutional deliveries.

Joyalukkas highlighted the social purpose of the scheme, emphasizing its role in strengthening the company's presence in a key market while contributing to a noble cause. The initiative aims to provide a token of value to newborns and support mothers using public health services.
