On November 13, 2025, SCM Garments, a leading textile manufacturer under the Chennai Silks Group, announced plans to expand its operations in Tamil Nadu. The company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government to set up a new knitted garments manufacturing facility in Mannargudi.
The first phase of this project will see an investment of ₹50 crore and the creation of 2,500 jobs, primarily for rural women. This is part of SCM's broader strategy to grow its production capacity and workforce. Currently, the company produces 15 million garment units per month across 24 production units, employing nearly 25,000 people.
SCM's customers span the globe, from the UK and US to France, China, and Hong Kong. The new facility in Mannargudi is expected to further strengthen the company's position in the global textile market and contribute to the economic development of the region.
