Tesla's sales volume in Germany experienced a sharp decline in December, falling by 48% compared to the same month in the prior year. The German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) reported that Tesla sold 2,032 vehicles, contributing to a 48.4% decrease in annual sales to 19,390 units for 2025.
Meanwhile, Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD witnessed a dramatic surge in its German market presence. In December, BYD's sales increased more than twelve-fold, reaching 4,109 units. For the full year 2025, BYD sold 23,306 units, surpassing Tesla in the German market.
Overall, the German electric vehicle market demonstrated substantial growth, with newly registered electric vehicles increasing by 43.2% to 545,142 units in 2025. This dynamic market shift sees Tesla losing its position as the world's top EV maker to BYD, influenced by heightened competition and evolving consumer incentives.
