Tesla's sales performance in Norway has taken a sharp downturn in January 2026, marking a significant shift in a market previously considered a brand stronghold. The Model Y registered only 62 units, capturing 2.8% of new car sales. Across its entire lineup, Tesla sold just 83 units, an 88% decline from the previous year.
This decline comes as competitors gain momentum. Volkswagen's ID.3 led the Norwegian market with 299 units sold, nearly five times Tesla's volume. Despite Tesla's challenges, the broader Norwegian automotive landscape overwhelmingly favors electric vehicles, with EVs making up 94% of all new vehicle sales last month.
However, Tesla has seen sales increases in other European countries. Spain experienced a 70% surge to 456 units, while Italy saw a 75% rise to 713 units. These gains are attributed to the introduction of more affordable Standard versions of the Model 3 and Model Y.
