Telstra hikes prices again, impacting millions
25 Mar
Summary
- Telstra plans to increase prices for nearly nine million customers.
- Some mobile plans will see a price jump of up to 17 percent.
- This marks the second price increase from Telstra in less than a year.

Australia's largest telecommunications provider, Telstra, is set to increase the prices of its mobile plans for the second time within the last year. This upcoming price adjustment is expected to impact nearly nine million customers across the country. Several popular plans will see their monthly costs rise, with some increases reaching as high as 17 percent.
The Essential plan, for instance, will see its price increase, while the premium plan's cost will remain unchanged. Telstra's cheapest starter plan will also become more expensive, and prepaid plans are set to rise by $5 monthly. These changes follow a period where Telstra reported a significant surge in profits, amounting to $1.2 billion in the latter half of 2025.
Similar price increases are being rolled out for Telstra's subsidiary brands, Belong and Boost. Consumer advocacy groups have voiced strong criticism, calling the hikes a 'slap in the face' given Telstra's robust financial performance and the current cost-of-living pressures faced by many Australians. Telstra has cited the need to invest in its 5G network and spectrum access costs as reasons for the adjustments.
