TC Energy Beats Profit Estimates Amidst Energy Demand Surge
1 May
Summary
- TC Energy exceeded first-quarter profit expectations.
- Company benefited from strong U.S. and Canadian operations.
- Surging natural gas demand is anticipated from AI and LNG.

TC Energy reported first-quarter earnings that exceeded market predictions on Friday. The pipeline operator's financial results were bolstered by strong operational performance across both its U.S. and Canadian segments.
The company's adjusted earnings per share for the three months ending March 31 came in at 99 Canadian cents, surpassing the average analyst estimate of 98 cents. This outperformance is occurring as the energy sector anticipates a substantial rise in natural gas demand.
Key drivers for this projected demand surge include the expansion of liquefied natural gas export facilities and the increasing electricity consumption by artificial intelligence systems, cryptocurrency miners, and data centers. TC Energy's U.S. natural gas pipelines, its largest operational segment, saw adjusted core profit increase to nearly C$1.50 billion from C$1.37 billion in the prior year. Canadian operations also contributed positively, with adjusted core earnings from Canadian natural gas pipelines rising to C$919 million from C$890 million year-over-year.
