India's First Chip Fab: Tata's Gujarat SEZ Notified

A new Special Economic Zone (SEZ) dedicated to electronic hardware and software has been officially notified by the government in Dholera, Gujarat. This SEZ is being established by Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing Pvt Ltd.
The company has proposed a substantial investment of Rs 91,000 crore to set up India's inaugural chip fabrication unit. This significant project was approved by the board of approval, the highest authority for SEZ matters.
The SEZ will occupy an area of 66.16 hectares and is expected to be a major job creator, with projections indicating 21,000 new employment opportunities. This initiative follows the government's earlier decision to reduce the minimum land requirement for semiconductor and electronics component sector SEZs.
Several other SEZs for the sector have already been notified, including those by CG Semi, Kaynes Semicon, and Micron Semiconductor Technology India, signaling a strong push towards domestic manufacturing in this critical industry.
