Syria Reopens Air Corridors Amid Regional Tensions
6 Mar
Summary
- Syria reopened a reactivated air corridor from Aleppo to the Mediterranean.
- The new route is accessible to all foreign airlines meeting safety standards.
- Aleppo International Airport sees gradual resumption of air traffic.

Syria has reopened a newly reactivated air corridor extending from the northern city of Aleppo towards the Mediterranean Sea. This route is now available for use by foreign airlines, in addition to the national carrier, Syrian Air.
The head of Syria's Civil Aviation Authority stated that the corridor is intended to offer a safe flight path for aircraft arriving at and departing from Aleppo. Any airline is permitted to use this corridor, provided they adhere to international safety standards.
Furthermore, air routes in the northern part of Syrian airspace leading to Turkey have also been reopened following operational and technical assessments. The first Syrian Air flight from Aleppo to Istanbul successfully departed and arrived safely, marking a significant step in the gradual return of air traffic.
This resumption comes amid widespread disruptions to commercial air travel across the Middle East, largely due to recent U.S.-Israeli air strikes on Iran and subsequent retaliatory actions. Major Gulf hubs have experienced significant closures, impacting regional and international flights.
