Food delivery giant Swiggy announced a major expansion of its 'Food on Train' service, now available at 122 railway stations nationwide. This move comes after a successful initial rollout, indicating strong demand from travelers. The platform has also enhanced convenience by extending the pre-ordering window for meals to 96 hours, allowing passengers more flexibility in planning their food choices.
With this expanded network, Swiggy aims to ensure travelers can enjoy diverse culinary options, even during festive seasons. Deepak Maloo, VP of food strategy at Swiggy, highlighted the increased ease for travelers to plan and access favorite local meals. The service now spans numerous stations, including key locations in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Kerala, Odisha, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh.
In parallel, Indian Railways is actively addressing passenger safety. Recent incidents, including a viral video of a passenger cooking with an electric kettle in an AC coach, have prompted swift action. Using such appliances is strictly prohibited due to fire risks and potential disruption to train systems, with authorities emphasizing that violations are punishable offenses.
