The SUV segment spanning 4.2m to 4.5m has seen a remarkable surge, with sales climbing 49.35% year-over-year to 76,789 units in March 2026. This robust growth, also evident in a 10.44% month-on-month increase, is attributed to fresh launches and updated models. Hyundai Creta continues to lead this competitive space, selling 17,838 units despite a minor decline.
Newcomer Maruti Victoris secured the second position with 11,062 units, significantly impacting sales of the Grand Vitara, which saw a 35.25% year-over-year decrease. Kia Seltos claimed third place with 11,041 units, marking its highest sales since its new-gen version debuted. Toyota HyRyder also demonstrated strong momentum with 10,206 units sold, highlighting growing demand for hybrid SUVs.
Further intensifying the competition, the Tata Sierra reported its highest monthly sales at 9,003 units. The Renault Duster has re-entered the market with 1,402 units, and an updated Volkswagen Taigun is expected to boost sales after its recent facelift. While some models like the MG ZS EV and Mahindra XUV400 experienced declines, the overall segment remains dynamic and poised for continued evolution.
