The decision comes as many small businesses in West Hollywood grapple with escalating costs of living and rising rents. Sofi Mamo of A Divine H20 noted that rent has nearly tripled for her business over 20 years, emphasizing the existential threat to local establishments.
Data from the city council indicates West Hollywood, particularly the Sunset Strip, is among the most expensive commercial areas in Los Angeles. The area has also seen a decline in visitors, with 300,000 fewer visitors in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the previous year.
