Sun Pharma Wins Trademark Battle Over 'Raciraft'
13 Apr
Summary
- Court stops Meghmani Lifesciences from using 'Esiraft'.
- Sun Pharma claimed 'Esiraft' infringed 'Raciraft' trademark.
- Deceptive similarity between brand names cited by court.

In a significant victory for Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, the Bombay High Court has issued an interim order preventing Meghmani Lifesciences from using the brand name 'Esiraft'. The court's decision, delivered on April 13, 2026, is in response to a plea filed by Sun Pharma, which argued that 'Esiraft' infringes upon its registered trademark 'Raciraft'.
Justice Bharati Dangre and Justice Manjusha Deshpande highlighted the phonetic and visual similarities between the two brand names. They noted that the potential for confusion arises from mispronunciation and slight alterations in common letters, which could deceive the average consumer. This ruling follows an earlier decision by a single judge that had vacated an injunction previously granted to Sun Pharma.
