Martyr's Home Path Cleared After 10 Years!
25 Jan
Summary
- Road to Sukhdev Thapar's ancestral home to be bulldozed.
- Access granted after a decade of bureaucratic delays.
- Hunger strike averted by planned demolition on Jan 25.

Revolutionary martyr Sukhdev Thapar's ancestral home in Ludhiana is poised to gain direct public access after a decade-long bureaucratic stalemate. The municipal corporation is set to demolish a property on January 25th, finally clearing a path from Chaura Bazaar to the historical house in Naughara Mohalla.
The Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar Memorial Trust has long advocated for this access, stating that the lack of a clear route discouraged visitors and tourists. Trust chairman Ashok Thapar highlighted the struggle, noting how many national days passed with pleas to authorities.
After years of delays, the additional MC commissioner's office finalized the property's acquisition. The owner has been ordered to vacate, and compensation has been awarded. The deputy commissioner has requested police and a duty magistrate for the January 25th handover.
This action preempts a planned hunger strike by trust members, who intended to protest if the city failed to act after January 26th. Local revenue officials will document the proceedings, paving the way for the city to create the public corridor.
