Stellantis Plans Massive 160% Production Boost in India

Stellantis is significantly increasing production capacity at its Thiruvallur, India, manufacturing facility. The plant, which currently produces the Citroen C3, eC3 EV, C3 Aircross, and Basalt, plans a more than 160% production boost. Annual output is projected to rise from 16,000 units in 2026 to over 43,000 units by 2028.

This expansion will also lead to a substantial increase in employment, with the direct shopfloor workforce expected to more than double. Stellantis India CEO and Managing Director, Shailesh Hazela, highlighted the company's investment of nearly INR 11,000 crore in building a robust manufacturing, engineering, and export ecosystem in the country.

Stellantis also operates a major manufacturing hub in Ranjangaon, Pune, through a joint venture with Tata Motors. This facility produces four Jeep models and three Tata Motors vehicles. Despite current lower overall sales, with Stellantis India dispatching approximately 8,000 units from January to August 2026, Citroen is a key growth driver. The company is also developing a new Jeep model with Tata Motors for domestic and export markets.
