St. Matthews Apartments Spark Neighbor Fears
11 Apr
Summary
- Nearly 200 apartments planned for St. Matthews raise resident concerns.
- Neighbors worry about traffic, loss of green space, and area character.
- A City Council meeting on April 14 will consider the Gilmans Point proposal.

A new residential development, Gilmans Point, is planned for St. Matthews, aiming to add 199 market-rate apartments across multiple buildings on a 7.5-acre site. Developer LDG's proposal includes one- and two-bedroom units, a clubhouse, pool, and dog park. However, the project has ignited worries among nearby residents about increased traffic, reduced green space, and changes to the neighborhood's established character.
Concerns were raised at a Louisville Metro Board of Zoning Adjustment meeting regarding a variance for a parking lot setback. Residents expressed apprehension about dumpsters near homes and the overall impact on the area's serenity. They argue that the development's scale is inconsistent with St. Matthews' character and that new housing should be single-family homes.
LDG Development has stated they reduced the project's size and increased open space and improvements in response to community feedback. A traffic study indicated minimal impact, and developers assert the buildings are designed with more residential-feeling details. The St. Matthews City Council is set to review the development plan at its meeting on April 14.
