SpaceX Soars Past $500B After Lock-Up Expiration
13 Aug
Summary
- SpaceX shares jumped 35% after lock-up restrictions expired.
- Company market cap increased by $500 billion following the rally.
- Elon Musk predicts $1 trillion in revenue by 2030 or 2029.

SpaceX shares have experienced a significant surge, gaining over 30% since early August, following the expiration of lock-up restrictions. This rally added approximately $500 billion to the company's market value, pushing its stock price back above its initial public offering (IPO) price.
The stock's impressive performance occurred within five trading sessions after the August 6 lock-up expiration. This upward trend has countered fears of substantial selling pressure that often accompanies such events.
Despite a prior 14% plunge attributed to higher-than-expected capital expenditures for AI in its first earnings report, SpaceX also reported a revenue beat and better-than-expected losses per share. These positive financial results appear to have been a catalyst for the subsequent stock rally.
Looking ahead, further lock-up expirations are scheduled, with approximately 319 million shares becoming eligible on August 20, followed by around 700 million shares in September and October. Elon Musk's Class A shares will become eligible in June 2027.
Elon Musk, during the earnings call, shared ambitious projections, anticipating SpaceX's revenue to reach an annual run rate exceeding $100 billion by the end of 2026 and potentially hitting $1 trillion in revenue by 2030 or 2029.
