Helipad Hotel Plan Back on Southampton Agenda
14 Jan
Summary
- A £200m waterfront development with a hotel and helipad is under review.
- The project received initial approval in March, subject to legal agreements.
- Missed deadlines mean the development faces a new planning panel decision.

A major waterfront development in Southampton, valued at £200m, is set for reconsideration by a planning panel. The proposal for Town Quay includes a hotel featuring a helipad, alongside three residential towers of 25 storeys each and dining establishments. This project had previously secured planning permission in March, contingent upon the completion of a legal agreement between the developer, Nicolas James Group, and the local council.
However, the developer has missed the stipulated deadlines for this legal agreement. Consequently, the development's future is now back before the councillors. The current recommendation from planning officers is to grant permission again, this time with a four-year validity period to commence the project.
This renewed approval would be subject to the successful completion of the required legal agreement within one month from the upcoming panel meeting on Tuesday. The panel's decision will determine the next steps for this extensive waterside regeneration project.
