A significant chapter in South Brisbane's industrial history is closing with the permanent shutdown of the Pauls Milk factory, widely known as the Parmalat site. Over 200 employees received notice on Tuesday that their jobs would cease on July 10.
The dairy facility has been a fixture at its riverside location for over eight decades, with operations dating back to 1937. Site operator Lactalis Australia confirmed the Brisbane workforce reductions.
Lactalis stated that affected employees' roles would be reallocated to other company sites located throughout Queensland and in other states. The company emphasized a strategy of greater utilization of existing, "fit-for-purpose" facilities.
