Summary
- China Railway Tunnel Group won S$199m contract for DTL2e tunnels.
- Construction for twin bored tunnels begins in Q3 2026.
- New DTL2e stations aim to improve connectivity in northwest Singapore.

Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded the final civil contract for the Downtown Line 2 extension (DTL2e). China Railway Tunnel Group secured a S$199 million contract to design and construct twin bored tunnels, approximately 1.8km each, between Bukit Panjang and the future DE1 station. These tunnels will be constructed beneath Woodlands Road, with works commencing in the third quarter of 2026 and passenger services expected to begin in 2035.
Two other civil contracts for DTL2e were previously awarded. Woh Hup Engineering received a contract for the DE1 station, while a joint venture between Samwoh Corporation and China Communications Construction Company secured a contract for an underground DE2 interchange station and a new aboveground NS6 station. Construction for these stations is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2026.
Upon completion in 2035, DTL2e will comprise three new stations, significantly increasing connectivity in Singapore's northwest. The extension aims to provide improved transfers between lines, access to areas like Yew Tee and Sungei Kadut Eco-District, and reduce travel times, potentially by up to 20 minutes from Yew Tee to Chinatown.
