More severe offenses, including causing obstruction or danger, or soiling public transport facilities, can lead to fines of up to $5,000. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) stated these changes are intended to foster a safer and more considerate public transport environment for all.
These updated rules bring bus regulations in line with existing policies on Singapore's Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) network. While bus drivers, referred to as 'captains', will not issue fines, they can ask disruptive passengers to alight. Authorized staff will be responsible for issuing official notices for these new legal offenses.
