IRB Sindhudurg Airport has officially received approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to conduct round-the-clock, all-weather flight operations. This significant upgrade includes certification for Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), enabling flights during low visibility and adverse weather conditions, thereby enhancing safety and reliability.
The airport has experienced a substantial increase in passenger traffic, recording close to 11,000 movements in December. To accommodate this growth, its aircraft parking capacity has been doubled, now accommodating six aircraft. This expansion is expected to position Sindhudurg Airport as a key aviation hub for the Konkan region.
This enhanced operational capability is anticipated to boost airline confidence, improve scheduling consistency, and significantly contribute to the economic and tourism development of the Konkan area. Furthermore, the upcoming commencement of the Mumbai-Sindhudurg route under the state's regional connectivity scheme is poised to further improve travel convenience.
