Simon Roberts, the chief executive of Sainsbury's, has been honored with a CBE for his significant contributions to the retail industry. His leadership has seen the UK's second-largest supermarket navigate the complexities of the Covid pandemic and the ongoing cost of living crisis, improving market share and boosting stock value. Roberts also participated in Rishi Sunak's business council and led the Institute of Grocery Distribution.
Several other prominent figures from the business world were also recognized. John Pettigrew, former chief executive of National Grid, received a CBE for his services to energy. Ian King, ex-CEO of BAE Systems, was awarded a CBE for his work in the transport and defence sectors, capping a long career in defense contracting.
Further accolades include Gary Hoffman, chair of Monzo and former chief executive of Northern Rock, receiving a CBE for services to the economy and sport. Matt Brittin, who led Google in EMEA, was also awarded a CBE for his contributions to technology and digital skills.
