Bank Cards, Hospital Dates Missed in Postal Fiasco
17 Dec
Summary
- Residents report bank cards and crucial letters arriving weeks late.
- Delayed mail caused some patients to miss important hospital appointments.
- Royal Mail states most deliveries are made on time despite busy periods.

Significant postal delays are causing considerable distress for residents in parts of Shropshire. Individuals have reported waiting for extended periods, sometimes exceeding several weeks, for essential mail, including new bank cards. One resident reported a wait of over seven weeks for a bank card, while another experienced delays of many weeks for various items.
The impact of these delays extends to critical healthcare access. Several patients have reportedly missed hospital appointments because appointment letters did not reach them in time. In one instance, a person was unable to attend a scheduled hospital appointment due to the extremely late arrival of a notification letter.
In response, Royal Mail acknowledged that it is currently a very busy period. However, the company maintained that the vast majority of letters and parcels are being delivered within the expected timeframe, suggesting that widespread issues might not be affecting all deliveries.
