Summary
- Buzz Bingo Shrewsbury will close permanently on January 31.
- The building, a former cinema since 1934, was sold to developers.
- Consultation is underway to redeploy staff to other Buzz Bingo locations.

The popular Buzz Bingo club in Shrewsbury is set to close permanently at the end of January 2026. The decision comes after the building, located on Castle Gates, was sold to a developer. This venue, which originally opened as a cinema in 1934 and transitioned to a bingo club in 1973, has served as a community hub for decades.
Buzz Bingo confirmed that the final session will be held on January 31, 2026. The company expressed pride in its Shrewsbury community and staff, acknowledging the difficulty of the news. A consultation process is currently underway with the aim of redeploying staff to other Buzz Bingo locations, ensuring continued employment where possible.
The sale of the building aligns with a 2021 masterplan for the town centre, which identified the historic Grade II listed Granada Cinema building for potential redevelopment. The plan suggested the structure deserved restoration and a new occupant to secure its future.
