India Launches Shorter Hajj for Busy Professionals
16 May
Summary
- A new short Hajj package allows completion in around 20 days.
- This initiative caters to working professionals and businesspersons.
- Approximately 10,000 pilgrims will utilize this special scheme.

For the first time in 2026, Indian pilgrims, particularly working professionals, will have the option to perform Hajj with a significantly reduced stay. The union government has introduced a special short Hajj package, responding to requests from individuals in business and professional sectors who find extended absences challenging.
This new arrangement enables pilgrims to complete all essential Hajj rituals and return to India in approximately 20 days, a stark contrast to the traditional 40-45 day pilgrimage. The scheme aims to accommodate around 10,000 pilgrims this year. Flights for this package are slated to commence on May 17, 2026, departing from Kochi, with additional departures planned from major Indian cities.
The short Hajj package will operate from May 17 to June 5, 2026. This initiative ensures that religious obligations are fulfilled while making the pilgrimage more manageable for those with demanding work schedules. The first flight is scheduled to depart from Cochin International Airport on May 17, 2026.
