Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor, a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1990 batch, has been appointed as the new Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). This appointment is effective immediately and will continue until October 31, 2026, which is the date of his retirement from service. Kapoor is currently serving within his home cadre state of Haryana.
Kapoor takes over from Praveen Kumar, a 1993-batch IPS officer. Kumar has been assigned the role of the new chief of the Border Security Force (BSF). His appointment to lead the BSF is scheduled to last until September 30, 2030, marking the end of his service tenure.
This significant reshuffling of leadership within India's border guarding forces aims to strengthen operational capabilities and strategic oversight. Both Kapoor and Kumar are experienced officers poised to lead their respective forces effectively in their new capacities.
