Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy inaugurated the new KSRTC bus stand in Shanivarasanthe on Saturday. The minister announced that the facility will be named after Field Marshal KM Cariappa, the first Army Chief of India, who hailed from Shanivarasanthe. Cabinet approval will be sought for this honor.
The bus stand was constructed at an investment of Rs 1 crore. Additionally, a grant will be provided for concreting the premises. Plans are also underway to build a bus stand in Kodlipet. The minister emphasized the success of the government's Shakti scheme, reporting that over 670 crore women have traveled by bus under its provisions, a record achievement.
Further highlighting KSRTC's growth, Reddy stated that the corporation has recruited 10,000 drivers and conductors. The fleet has expanded significantly, increasing from 5,800 buses to a total of 7,800 buses in the state this year, with annual procurement of new vehicles planned. The upcoming budget will prioritize road connectivity, and support will be extended for transport initiatives, including enhanced bus services for Kodagu district.
