The Department of Posts and the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare have partnered to establish a standardized, faceless, and fully traceable logistics system for agricultural input samples. This collaboration ensures the secure and time-bound movement of seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides from collection points to laboratories, incorporating digital tracking and QR code-based address masking for confidentiality.
The initiative strengthens the quality control mechanism by digitizing key processes, from sample collection to legal action. It aims to prevent the circulation of substandard and spurious agricultural inputs, thereby protecting farmers' financial interests and crop productivity. This digital framework enhances transparency and accountability within the enforcement system.
In parallel, the draft Seeds Bill is being finalized to bolster seed quality regulation, with provisions for farmer exemptions and protection of traditional varieties. This legislative effort supports seed sovereignty and mitigates risks from inferior seeds.
Separately, India's spice exports, including turmeric, cardamom, and coriander, demonstrated strong performance, with a 30.92 percent increase in value for 2024-25 compared to the previous year, reaching $628.05 million. Over 99.8 percent of Indian spice consignments were accepted globally during this period.
