SEBI: Vision, Not Just Rules, Needed Ahead

Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Chairman Tuhink Kanta Pandey has stated that the upcoming years will necessitate both vision and regulation to address global headwinds stemming from ongoing conflicts and technological shifts. He highlighted that SEBI's forward-looking strategies will concentrate on accelerating regulatory simplification, fostering market innovation, and enhancing supervision through technological advancements.

Pandey noted SEBI's transition to an e-office environment, bolstered data analytics capabilities, and strengthened internal governance following recommendations on conflicts of interest. The regulator is increasingly leveraging advanced analytics and AI-powered platforms to improve its oversight effectiveness.

He further remarked that the Indian markets have shown significant resilience amidst global economic uncertainty, attributing this strength to years of institution-building and robust regulatory frameworks. Capital accumulation and market momentum have persisted even during turbulent periods, reflecting a transformation from floor trading to a globally connected, real-time digital trading environment.

This evolution, Pandey explained, was driven by foundational reforms such as screen-based trading, dematerialization, and strong risk management. He credited SEBI's success to the collaborative spirit among its employees, market participants, government agencies, and media, underscoring investor trust as paramount to the organization's progress.
