SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey confirmed on Saturday that the market regulator is actively monitoring governance developments at the Tata Group's holding company. While Tata Sons, the group's unlisted holding entity, faces scrutiny, its 26 publicly listed companies adhere to all Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR) norms.
Pandey indicated that SEBI's oversight is continuous, as these listed entities and their promoters are bound by regulatory requirements. The Tata Group boasts a substantial presence with 26 listed companies, collectively valued at USD 328 billion as of March 31, 2025. This focus on governance occurs against a backdrop of discussions concerning the reappointment of N Chandrasekaran and the potential listing of Tata Sons.
Analysis reveals that seven specific listed companies, including Tata Steel and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, collectively hold approximately 11.92 per cent in Tata Sons. These firms represent a fraction of the group's extensive portfolio. Ownership of Tata Sons is predominantly held by Tata Trusts (around 66%) and the Shapoorji Pallonji Group (approximately 18.4%).
